Food and Wine Pairing
Wine can enhance the flavours of food served at a table. However, when pairing food with wine, it is important to observe synergy and balance. This simply means that the wine should not overpower the food and vice versa. Wine should be treated like a condiment. In other words, it should compliment the food for it be considered a good pair. If you ever notice, wine can taste different when drunk with food. This is because wine acts on food the same way that spices do. Wine interacts with food and provide it with various taste sensations brought about by its acids, tannins, and sugars. A rule of thumb that people should follow when pairing food and wine is to balance the intensity of the flavour of food. This means that lighter food should be paired with lighter wines and vice versa.
