Petrus Pomerol 1998

Exquisite is perhaps the best word to describe this pricey Bordeaux blend. Taking its root from a small vineyard of 12 hectares, where the grapes planted are 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, Petrus Pomerol is made from, the grape fruit that has been harvested early and subsuequently allowed to mature slowly. The release is a deep red to purplish wine that initially teases with tones of plum and truffle.

The aroma of mocha then wafts from the drink. As it reaches the tongue, it explodes with the vibrancy of fruity flavours – vanilla, berries and oak. It then leaves traces of pepper and dark fruit, lingering a while after it has been swallowed. Petrus Pomerol ‘s complexity and balance presently fetches a price of $1,459 (£991 or €1,106), making it the world’s second most expensive wine. Connoisseurs truly enjoy it at its youth, but also eagerly await its maturity by the year 2012.
